Gift Cards: Getting the most out of them this Christmas

We’ve all been there – that moment when someone unwraps their present and you can just tell from the look on their face that it wasn’t the right choice. Some people are hard to buy for, but don’t worry. There is a guaranteed way to make them happy this Christmas - gift cards.
Whether you want to introduce your loved ones to your favourite shop or give them a chance to buy something they normally wouldn’t, a gift card is the perfect option for that tricky person to buy for this year. But before you rush out and start ticking off those names from your Christmas list, there are a few things you need to know:
  1. Making the right choice - The first thing to do is decide which card you’re going to buy. There’s such a huge range available that it can sometimes be hard to know where to start! If you’re unsure, you can always opt for a gift card that can be spent in multiple shops. Whatever your decision, make sure you’re always buying from a trusted retailer.
  1. Ask questions- So you’ve made your choice, now let’s make sure you’re in the know. Retailers want you to get the most out of your purchase, so ask as many questions as you can. Whether it’s in store, over the phone or online, gathering all the info you need will help you get the right card.
  1. Tell them how much you’ve spoilt them– It can be easy to forget, but getting a gift card is just like receiving cash, so make sure you let the recipient know how much is on there! If they know how much they’ve got to spend, they’ll be able to take full advantage over Christmas or in the January sales.
  1. Keep the receipt – Most people are terrible at keeping hold of these, but having the receipt can make the redeeming process run more smoothly. If there’s any problem at all, it’ll be sorted out much more easily if you have the receipt to hand.
  1. Make sure it’s good to go- Some gift cards will be ready to be used immediately, but others might require activation or collection from a store. Before you give your gift card, make sure the recipient knows what they have to do. That way, they won’t hit any bumps in the road when they go off to shop.
They may seem like a simple gift, but knowing how to get the most out of your gift cards will make the present extra special.
